2018 Roster Composition?

Postby Rick Smetana » Wed Sep 06, 2017 8:26 am

What about the following roster composition:

C
1B
2B
3B
SS
CI
MI
4 OF
2 UT/DH
10 P

Total 23 man roster
____________________________________________________________________________

This would mean:

dropping a 2nd C
dropping a 5th OF
adding a 10th P
adding a 2nd UT/DH

Will leave this poll open for 15 days....

What is the reasoning behind this change?

With MLB using more pitchers, I think the trend should also be followed here. And doing away with the 2nd catcher just makes sense to me. I think making the the 2nd C a UT makes roster manipulation smarter to me.

I support the idea of changing the roster composition, but not as proposed. I think we drop one outfielder. A MLB roster has to have 2 catchers. Then the choice would be add an extra pitcher or add a swing player that could be either a utility player or a pitcher. 99% sure on Rotocan handle this as some of the expert leagues who use on Roto use it.

I do not share the view that our goal is to mimic what is happening in the major leagues. Our goal should be to have rules that make our game fair and enjoyable. And I think there should be a rebuttable presumption against changing rules for the next year, particularly at a late stage. For example, the late decision to make holds equal to saves year before last (since changed) was unfair to many owners who had invested in saves. Here too, those owners who have invested in catchers would be compromised. A fair process of changing rules requires advance notice. As I say, that principle can be overridden when a prompt change in rules is required (e.g., the overly rigid rule of restricting the minor league roster in season roster to 5 players deserves to be promptly dispatched), but fair notice is a valuable principle.
